A quick note from the Tavistock Town Chairman, Stewart O'Loughlin to you all to say thank everyone and congratulations for last nights presentation. I think it went really well, and from the feedback I have heard I think most people enjoyed their evening. Jim, you were missed, but lauded in your absence. Come home soon. Extra thanks again to Adrian and Diane for arranging the whole evening, including the special guest which I think went down very well, especially with the under 14 girls ! -
Tavistock Town U14 Girls 1-0 Efford
Tavistock played their title rivals Efford for the third time this season and beat them for a third time without conceding a goal in any of the games. The girls have still to lose a game this season and go into the last game against Saltash with the league title already won - what an achievement from a team who had such a hard time last season. The majority of the players stuck together and, with some new faces, trained every week gradually building up confidence and a real team ethic which was the main reason for their success in this match and many others.
From the kick off, Tavistock were the more eager chasers and tacklers and great work in defence gave Grace Oliver the chance to sprint through the defence and smash the ball into the bottom corner (1-0). From that moment on Tavistock never looked back and continued to pressurise the opposition, seldom allowing them any chances - those they did get were ably parried by Fiona McCall in goal. Jolene Piper and Amy Bassett were stalwarts in defence, ably assisted by Megan Case, Livvy Hodge and Player of the Match Shannon Ashworth in midfield who never shirked their responsibility to "come back and help". Efford did gain a penalty and some more pressure on the Tavistock goal but the Tavy team ethic kept them out. The joy and relief on the players and supporters faces on the final whistle was great to see.
Special mention must also go to the substitutes on the day, Megan McCormick, Catherine Jones and Zoe Metters who, although they did not get on the pitch today have played an integral part in a winning season.
I would like it known that everyone in the squad richly deserve all the plaudits they will get and all should look forward to a tough but fruitful season next year in the "top" league. Well done girls and THANK YOU ALL!! - New Team - Under 16 children with disability or special
needs
